How to Become A Content Creator

Hello Creatives!

Today, I’m talking about what it takes to be a content creator. The $11 billion dollar content creation industry is booming. Content creation as an industry is expected to generate $38.2 billion dollars by 2030. That’s more than triple increase only 9 years from now!

For anyone looking to get into the game, it’s not too late!

What is a content creator?

Literally, anyone who creates content online with the purpose of building an audience. That’s a really broad definition so I’ll elaborate a little bit. Here’s a short and incomplete list of all the things you can create to become a content creator:

  • become a podcast host on a topic you love

  • vlog your lifestyle

  • vlog your professional career & industry related tips

  • post tutorials on Youtube about practical life things

  • stream yourself playing and commenting on video games

  • become a product reviewer

  • blog about food, life, travel etc

  • build an online course about a thing your good at or are interested in

  • take photos and share them with the world

  • make music and post it on Sound Cloud or Spotify

How do you start creating content?

Figuring out how to start creating content is fairly simple. There’s only 3 steps to it.

Step 1: Pick a social media platform.

Which social media platform are you most comfortable using? Can you commit to posting regularly on that app or website? These are the questions you should ask yourself first and foremost.

Step 2: Find your niche

It’s totally okay if this changes. But to start out find something you like or are mildly interested in learning and go with that. Then decide who you’ll “talk to” when you’re creating the content. Small business owners? Suburban moms? Traveling college students? Who do you think would need or want this content most?

Step 3: Plan your content

Now sit down and figure out how often you will be able to post. Make it realistic to start out. Once a month? Once a week? Do what will work best for you for now. This can always change later. Then, start jotting down content topics. Get 10-12 ideas for a blog, video, podcast or whatever you choose on paper and call it good.

That’s it. That’s how you become a content creator. Find what you like to talk about. Be realistic on which platform you can tolerate posting regularly on. Plan your content.

Sticking to it is a different story. Something that can help is to connect with other content creators in your niche and on your platform. Because creativity needs community.

I hope this helps. Are you thinking about becoming a content creator? Let me know, I would love to hear it!
